In order to update the pensioners' centre De Holdert a new vision was developed. The starting point was the younger pensioner who should also feel at home in a service centre for elderly people. The intention is that visitors not only communicate with each other, but will feel like taking along their children and grandchildren. The groundfloor has been laid out in a new way and equipped all over. Keunstwurk has started a model project and invited a group of artists and designers to add a number of objects to this setup. At the entrance an interactive welcoming object has been installed. Outside a circle of seats has been made, which can also be used as a parking lot for the pensioners' walkers.
In the sitting area on the left a wall was removed that used to separate the toilets and the elevator from the rest. It was desirable and legally mandatory to have a separation here all the same. This was going to bear the brunt of wheelchairs and visitors passing. The wish was put forth for this object to be striking and surprising. In realizing this I have made extensive use of computer controlled LED illumination and given it a tangible quality.
